The City of Lompoc’s Economic Development Committee is proud to announce Kendall-Shepard Eye Center as the latest recipient of its Economic Vitality Award (EVA).

Kendall-Shepard Eye Center has fulfilled multiple criteria for the award, including modernizing through new technology, a new building, weathering economic downturns, and being a business leader in the community.

Optometrist Dr. Kenneth Kendall began his private practice in Lompoc in 1990. In 2004 he merged his practice with Shepard Eye Center to form Elite Eye Care. This includes Shepard Eye Center in Santa Maria as well.

Dr. Kendall is a Medicare provider and a member of both the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. A perpetual student of the leading edge of today’s vision care, he also completed the vigorous training and examination process to become California-certified in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Randall Goodman, who also practices in the Santa Maria clinic, joined the practice in 2005. In addition to his focus on performing state-of-the-art cataract, laser, glaucoma, refractive and eyelid plastic surgery, he is the author of an ophthalmology textbook and numerous journal articles, book chapters and scientific abstracts.

Dr. Goodman is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is recognized throughout his profession as an award-winning writer, teacher and researcher. Dr. Goodman also has participated in surgical mission trips to Mexico, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Later this year, Kendall-Shepard Eye Center will be celebrating 10 years at their beautiful facility in Lompoc, located at 425 West Central Avenue. The facility includes nine examination rooms, three special testing rooms, one operating room, as well as a full-service optical shop. \

The facility has three doctors on-site: one ophthalmologist and two optometrists. In addition, Kendall Shepard Eye Center also employs over 25 staff members at the Lompoc location.

Dr. Kendall set out to create a world-class optometric center in Lompoc. His goal is to provide services right here in our small town so patients do not need to travel to a bigger city.

They provide surgical services on-site such as upper and lower eyelid surgery as well as pterygium removal. Pterygium (pronounced tur-IJ-ee-um), also known as Surfer’s Eye, is a growth of pink tissue which forms on the “white” of the eye, and grows toward the pupil. It is caused by excessive exposure to the sun and is commonly seen in those who work outdoors with no sun protection. It usually is not considered a serious condition, but it can cause frustrating symptoms. Fortunately, it can be treated at Kendall-Shepard Eye Center, right here in Lompoc.

The center's in-house optical department has a large selection of value frame and lenses as well as some of the latest styles and brand names in prescription eyewear and sunglasses. It uses only the best products and the latest technology for their prescription lenses and lens treatments.

The optical dispensary offers the largest selection in Lompoc and its licensed opticians are experts in glasses fitting and service. The optical department is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and most Saturdays as well.
