Sunday 17 Sept 2017 2-4 PM LVBHS Program on Lompoc Valley GardensSoil Make-up at Valley of the Flowers Church in Vandenberg Village.

The 17 September Lompoc Valley Horticultural Society will feature a presentation on garden soil make-up. A limited amount of soil pH Value testing will be done. PH Value refers to the degree of alkaline or acid content of soil. Members wishing to have their garden soil tested for its pH Value may bring a sample of their soil taken from a 4 inch depth and as a mix from different portions of the garden to obtain an average. Do not handle the sample with one’s hands. Repeat- testing will be limited.

A demonstration of soil testing for the Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash content of garden soil will be done. A display of soil samples showing sand, silt and clay ratios from various area gardens will also be on hand. We will also be reviewing some of the activities various members have been doing over the summer concerning the Burton Mesa Interpretative Area on the Lompoc Allan Hancock Campus, the Beattie Park Recognition Grove, The Drought Tolerant Garden, and general valley-wide beautification efforts.

The Church is at the corner of Constellation Rd. and Jupiter St. (3346 Constellation Rd) For details, contact Charlie Blair 733-3189.
