Adalberto (Alberto) Vega (age 85), passed away on October 18, 2017, in his Santa Ynez, CA home. He was born on March 31, 1932 in Peoria, Arizona to Secundino Vega from Puerto Rico and Mother Epifania (Anna) Vega from Mexico.
Alberto grew up in Carpinteria, CA, and attended Aliso School, Carpinteria High School and San Jose City College. He served in the California National Guard and U.S. Army as a Division Artillery Bugler and Message Center Clerk in Camp Cooke, CA, now Vandenberg AFB, in 1950. He then went on to serve in Japan (1950) and North Korea in the winter of 1951 and 1952 as a Forward Artillery Observer Telephone Installer and Lineman. Alberto retired from the U.S. Postal Service after an accomplished 35 year career. He was a lifelong trumpeter and played in Latin bands in San Jose and Santa Barbara, and he most recently played with The Santa Ynez Wind Ensemble, a 35 member concert band. A man of strong faith, Alberto was a parishioner at the Old Mission Santa Ines and St. Louis de Montfort Church in Orcutt, CA.
Alberto, loving husband, father and grandfather (Papa), is survived by his wife (61 years of marriage) Maxine Galindo Vega from Santa Ynez; three daughters: Cynthia DePriest (Tom) from Orcutt, CA, AnnaMarie Vega (Mert) from Sacramento, CA, and Yvonne Vega (Leo) from Walnut Creek, CA; six grandchildren: Denise Lazar (Todd) from Paso Robles, Matthew DePriest, Orcutt, CA, Steven Bryden (Katie) Paso Robles, CA, Michael DePriest (Alyssa), Orcutt, CA, David Bryden from Arroyo Grande, CA, and Mateo Marchis from Walnut Creek, CA; and three great grandchildren: Olivia Lazar, Paso Robles, CA, Jocelyn Bryden and James Bryden from Paso Robles, CA.
Beloved brother to siblings: John Ortiz (deceased), Santa Barbara, CA, Lydia Delgadillo (Larry, deceased), Santa Barbara, CA, Esther Padilla (Joe), Santa Barbara, CA, Eva Flores (Bobby, deceased), Oxnard, CA, Helen Martinez (Joe), Paso Robles, CA, and Victor Vega, Santa Barbara, CA. Alberto is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, whom he always cherished.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 10am at Old Mission Santa Ines in Solvang, CA. Interment with military honors follows at Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara (Solvang Branch), CA. Thank you to Billie, Janice and Melissa for the endearing warmth and wonderful care you all provided to our father during his last weeks of life.
