It is with great sadness that the family of Bertha Hutchins Poss announces that Bertha passed away on January 24, 2018 at the age of 92. Bertha was residing at the Lompoc Skilled and Rehab Center.

Bertha was born and raised in Alabama until she married Sylvester Hutchins, who had a career in the Army. They traveled both here and abroad settling in Lompoc after Sylvester retired. Sylvester passed away in 1974 and Bertha remarried Donald Poss.

Bertha will lovingly be remembered by her children Lawrence, Ronald and Sandra Lee; her grandchildren Sharon, Krystal, Suzanne, Eric, Cynthia and Brian and her great and great great grandchildren.

Bertha was a fun and creative spirit who brought joy to those around her. She was a deeply caring person who always lent a hand to help her fellow man. As a younger woman, she took on and cared for the children of Lolita and Gil Sattler and Rick and Judy Langley from infants until the time they went to school. She was a devoted Nonnie to both her own grandchildren and to those she took care of while their parents worked. She was a long-time member of the Moose and Elks clubs and enjoyed long lasting friendships with many people. She loved playing cards and was an avid reader. She and her husband Donald Poss traveled extensively to Alabama and Florida where they enjoyed visiting with family.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husbands Sylvester (Hutch) Hutchins and Donald C. Poss. We will cherish the loving ways she touched our lives and she will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11 am at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel.
