January 22, 2018, Kay McKenzie Gustafson passed away at home with family in attendance. Kay was raised in Guadalupe, California. She graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1958, and Pasadena City College School of Nursing in Pasadena, California in 1962, as a Registered Nurse.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Barry Gustafson, and her parents, Ruth and Kermit McKenzie, of Guadalupe and her brother, Max McKenzie, of Running Springs, California.
She is survived by her children, Kristen (Eddy) Dimock of Lompoc, Kevin (Kim) Gustafson of San Antonio, Texas and Kurt Gustafson of Puyallup, Washington.
Kay had seven grandchildren, Landon, Donovan and Blaine Dimock, Hailee and Hannah Gustafson and Kayla and Kolbe Gustafson. She is also survived by her sister Alyce McKenzie Taylor of Santa Maria, California and numerous nieces and nephews.
After several years in Riverside, California the family moved to Lompoc in 1971, where Kay began working at Lompoc District Hospital OB Department until she retired in 2000. Kay will be remembered by the many families where she assisted in the delivery of multiple generations of babies.
Kay was an avid crafter who sold her bears and woodwork at craft shows all over the Central Coast. Kay also loved to travel and enjoyed visiting Lake Tahoe and cruising with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc Friday, January 26 at 10:00 am with Pastor Clete Doyal officiating.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers you may donate to the Lompoc Hospital Foundation.
