Peter Paul (Pete) Drus, Jr. passed away at home on July 24, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Los Angeles, California on November 19, 1938 to Paul and Geraldine Drus. He had been a resident of Lompoc area since August 1973. A graduate of University of California Los Angeles with a degree in General Engineering, Pete entered government service immediately upon graduation. He served in the United States Air Force until June 1975 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He became a civilian employee for the Department of Defense working in the same office he vacated as a uniformed officer. He retired from government service in March 2004. Pete was extremely proud of his 40 years of service to his country and accumulated many awards and commendations for his contributions.
Pete was an unforgettable character to all who crossed his path. He had several passions-his wife, daughters and grandson, music, a love for God's creation, his church family, and collecting bargains from the local thrift shops. His family and friends will always remember Pete for his eclectic choice of attire, his remarkable collection of bolo ties and hats, and his seemingly unending source of limericks and corny jokes.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, Peter Paul Drus and his mother Geraldine Drus. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Alice; daughters Laura Malouf-Renning (Micharelle) of San Francisco, Rachel Brian of Santa Barbara, Gail Drus of Gallitzin, Pennsylvania; grandson Robert Brian; and cousin Robert Hammeras of Long Beach, California.
