Ronald was born on February 12, 1932, in Heavener, Oklahoma. He and his family moved to Lompoc in July 1942. Ronald graduated from Lompoc High School in 1950. He had been active in sports; playing on the football, basketball and track teams. His track relay team set a school record which has only recently been beaten.
Following graduation, Ronald worked at the Ruffner-Schuyler Service station and joined the Navy Reserves. He served on active duty with the Navy from January 1952 until November 1953. Following his discharge, he worked at Moore's Grocery Store and the Johns Manville Corporation before joining Local Plumbers Union # 114, in 1958, which he contracted out of for the next 31 years. After leaving the plumbers union, he worked for the Lompoc Unified School District, delivering school lunches, for 11 years; finally retiring for good in June 2000.
Ronald enjoyed watching sports, especially those involving his grandchildren; traveling; reading; restoring and driving his antique pickup truck; and spending time at and working on his rural property. But, most of all he enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was active for years in the Lompoc Elks Lodge # 2274, where he served as exalted ruler in 1977-1978. For years, he could be seen working on the chain gang at the Lompoc High School football games.
