Cabrillo High School junior Sam Ricci is the winner of the Vandenberg Village Lions Club's annual student speakers contest.

This year’s topic was "Integrity and civility play what role in today’s society?"

Kiara Ricci, a freshman at Cabrillo, was a finalist.

Sam Ricci, who won $100 cash, will now advance to the Zone 4 contest March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Orcutt Lions Den, 126 S. Broadway in Orcutt.

Vandenberg Village Lions Billye Iverson and Mary Ann Weyandt conducted the contest.

The Lions of California have sponsored this speech contest for the past 81 years. This year, the Lions 4th District Student Speakers Foundation will provide scholarships totaling $103,500 to winners throughout the state.
