'Coffee House Chats' to focus on caregiving
Meridian of Lompoc will host its next "Coffee House Chats" gathering from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at South Side Coffee Co., 105 South H St.
The event, held on the third Wednesday of each month, is open to the community. Attendees will be able to drink coffee and eat muffins during an informal conversation on topics centered around caregiving and dementia. The goal of the talks is to provide support and helpful tips in dealing with dementia in a relaxing environment with others who understand, according to organizers.

Cunningham to speak at chamber luncheon
Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham, who represents the 35th District, will be the featured speaker at a luncheon hosted by the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce on Thursday at the Embassy Suites, 1117 North H St.
The cost to attend the luncheon is $20 for Chamber members and $30 for nonmembers. The price includes lunch, which will feature a beef taco bar with toppings, rice and beans. Guests with special dietary needs are asked to contact the Chamber. Check-in will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the program slated to begin at 11:45 a.m.

Dog rescue to raise funds at Chipotle
Shadow’s Fund Dog Rescue will team with Chipotle Mexican Grill, 1413 North H St., for a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Customers who mention Shadow's Fund during the fundraiser hours will have 50 percent of their purchases donated to Shadow’s Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of senior dogs and dogs labeled as pit bulls.

Church to host Community Day party
The community of Lompoc is invited to attend a Community Day Neighborhood Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at Lompoc Seventh-day Adventist Church, 205 W. Chestnut Ave.
Among the local agencies participating in the event are Hancock College, Community Health Clinic (providing free blood pressure checks), Home Depot (providing a kids workshop craft station), Head Start and the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protection Center. The event will also include a petting zoo, a bounce house, games and snacks. Everything will be free.

Lions Club to host pancake breakfast fundraiser
The Vandenberg Village Lions Club will be host a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 26 at Applebee’s, 621 W. Central Ave.
The cost for a meal will be $10. Meal tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Proceeds will benefit Lompoc Valley community service projects, according to the Lions Club.

Boy Scout open house set for Aug. 28
A Lompoc-area Boy Scout troop will hold an open house at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave.
Families will be able to get information and/or register for Boys Scouts at the event. Boy Scouting is open to young men ages 11 through 18. The troop is looking for Scouts to hike and trek in New Mexico next summer.
