Mayor inviting public for 'Coffee with Bob'

Lompoc Mayor Bob Lingl invites the community to join him for a cup of coffee and conversation from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at South Side Coffee Co., 105 South H St.

Let the mayor buy you a cup of coffee while you ask him questions and/or tell him your concerns regarding the city.

American Legion group hosting fundraiser dinner

The American Legion Post 211 will host its monthly seafood dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at 636 North H St.

The dinner, which is open to everyone, will be $8 for fish, $10 for shrimp or $10 for a combo.

Car wash to benefit family of late teenager

Friends of Paige Arellanes, a Lompoc 18-year-old whose body was found in Kern County's Lake Isabella on July 19, will hold a car wash Saturday in Arellanes' honor and to raise funds to help his family cover end-of-life expenses.

The car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chevron station, 3705 Constellation Road, in Vandenberg Village. Organizers are asking for a $5 donation per car. All proceeds, according to organizers, will go directly to the family.

City offering STEM with Lego classes

The Lompoc Recreation Division is accepting registration for its Engineering with Lego Summer Camp classes.

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with Lego classes are scheduled for Monday through Aug. 11 at the Anderson Recreation Center. Intro to STEM with Lego is for ages 5 to 7 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon, while STEM Challenge with Lego is for ages 7 to 12 and runs from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost for each course is $145.

Hospital auxiliary encouraging participation

The Lompoc Valley Medical Center Auxiliary is inviting members of the community to attend its meetings. Members of the organization, which supports the hospital, enjoy listening and learning from various guest speakers from the community, according to a spokesperson.

Anyone interested in joining the organization, or interested in volunteering in the hospital’s gift shop, is encouraged to attend the next meeting, scheduled for 2 p.m. Sept. 11 in the south conference room just off the hospital dining room.
