Osborne to speak at Democratic Club meeting
The Lompoc Valley Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at 104 South H St.
Lompoc City Councilwoman Jenelle Osborne will be the featured speaker. She is expected to discuss several city-related issues.
Light refreshments will be available during a social time before the meeting at 6:30. All members and friends are welcome to attend.
Carbajal to host breakfast for veterans
Local veterans and their families are invited to attend a Veterans Breakfast with Congressman Salud Carbajal, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building, 100 E. Locust Ave.
The event will feature a program at 9 a.m., during which six local veterans will be honored, and representatives from several organizations that provide services to veterans will be on hand to provide information. The breakfast continues an annual tradition started by Carbajal's predecessor, ex-Congresswoman Lois Capps.

'Coffee House Chats' to focus on caregiving
Meridian of Lompoc will host its next "Coffee House Chats" gathering from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at South Side Coffee Co., 105 South H St.
The event, held on the third Wednesday each month, is open to the community. Attendees will be able to drink coffee and eat muffins during an informal conversation on topics centered around caregiving and dementia. The goal of the talks, according to organizers, is to provide support and helpful tips in dealing with dementia in a relaxing environment with others who understand.

Scouts to hold recruitment meeting
Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 2103 will hold a recruitment meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at North Avenue Baptist Church, 1523 W. North Ave.
Cub Scouting is open to boys in kindergarten through fifth grades. Boy Scouting is open to boys ages 11 through 18. Leaders will be available at the meeting to explain the program, answer questions and accept registrations.
Recovery Day event to be held at Ryon Park
Coast Valley Substance Abuse Treatment Center, which has offices in Lompoc, will celebrate National Recovery Month with a Recovery Day in the Park event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Ryon Park, 800 W. Ocean Ave.
The family-friendly event will include live entertainment, activities for children, information booths, a motorcycle and car show, and a free barbecue.

Barbecue fundraiser to benefit downtown chimes
The Vandenberg Village Rotary and Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church will hold a chicken barbecue fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave.
All proceeds will go to repair the chimes that are located outside of Grace Temple's historic downtown building.
Dinners will be $10. Presale tickets are available at The Bookstore, 1137 North H St.; Dr. Gene Pritchett's office, 133 North G St.; Dr. Dana Manchester's office, 205 North H St.; Phil Boortz at Edward Jones, 3839 Constellation Road in Vandenberg Village; or from members of Grace Temple.
