Dog rescue to raise funds at Chipotle

Shadow’s Fund Dog Rescue will team with Chipotle Mexican Grill, 1413 North H St., for a fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Customers who mention Shadow's Fund during the fundraiser hours will have 50 percent of their purchases donated to Shadow’s Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of senior dogs and dogs labeled as pit bulls.

Skateboard Competition slated for Saturday

The community is invited to gear up for the Lompoc Recreation Division’s annual Skateboard Competition, scheduled for Saturday at the Lompoc Skate Park, 305 W. College Ave.

The event is open to all skaters ages 7 and older, and is co-sponsored by Surf Connection and Lompoc Foursquare Church. Check-in starts at 10 a.m. and the contest begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $5 per event. Prizes will be awarded in each category and age group. Participants must comply with the rules and regulations of the Skate Park, and wear appropriate safety equipment.

Church to hold annual yard sale Saturday

St. Timothy's Orthodox Christian Church, 403 North J St., will hold its annual yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. 

All proceeds from the sale will benefit humanitarian projects taken on by the church's women's fellowship, according to organizers.

Church to host Community Day party 

The community of Lompoc is invited to attend a Community Day Neighborhood Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at Lompoc Seventh-day Adventist Church, 205 W. Chestnut Ave.

Among the local agencies participating in the event are Hancock College, Community Health Clinic (providing free blood pressure checks), Home Depot (providing a kids workshop craft station), Head Start and the North County Rape Crisis and Child Protection Center. The event will also include a petting zoo, a bounce house, games and snacks. Everything will be free.

Mexican Independence party set for Sept. 10

El Concilio de Lompoc will host its 40th annual Mexican Independence Celebration from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Ryon Park. 

The event is being held to commemorate Mexico's War of Independence from Spain, which began in 1810. It will begin with a salute to the Mexican and American flags and will include food vendors, a bounce house and information booths, along with live entertainment and a car show. No animals, bike riding, personal cooking, alcohol consumption or smoking will be allowed in the park during the celebration.
