Clubs to host Emergency Preparedness event

The Lompoc Valley Democratic Club and the Lompoc Valley Republican Women Federated are co-sponsoring an Emergency Preparedness event scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday in the Grossman Gallery at the Lompoc Public Library, 501 E. North Ave.

The program will be presented by the Lompoc Fire Department. Everyone is invited to attend and learn how best to prepare for earthquake, fire and flood disasters. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.

The library closes its doors at 7, so anyone arriving later will need to use one of the doors that leads directly into the Grossman Gallery.

Tickets on sale for mission's Founding concert

Tickets are on sale for La Purisima Mission’s annual Founding Day Concert, which will take place beginning at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the mission.

This year’s concert will feature a performance from the Santa Ynez Valley Master Chorale. Tickets are $6, and will not be available at the door. They can be purchased at www.lapurisimamission.org, in the mission's visitor center and tienda, and via mail by sending a check to La Purisima Mission State Historic Park, 2295 Purisima Road, Lompoc CA 93436.

Also on Dec. 8, the date the mission was founded in 1787, there will be a Mass at noon that will be open to the public.

LUSD campuses, offices to close for Veterans Day

All Lompoc Unified School District campuses and offices will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

The district will return to its normal schedule beginning Nov. 13.

Elks Lodge to host Veterans Day celebration

The Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave., will host its annual Veterans Day Celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and the public is invited to attend.

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meals are free for veterans and $3 for others. The Rip Tide Big Band will provide live entertainment from noon to 3 p.m., and there will also be displays of military memorabilia.

Catholic Daughters group to hold 'Treasure Sale'

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas will hold a “Treasure Sale” from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 523 E. Chestnut Ave.

The sale will include plants, homemade articles, Christmas decorations and many other miscellaneous items.

Petty to perform country classics in LCA show

Singer/actor Jason Petty will take the stage for a concert titled "Hank & My Honky Tonk Heroes" on Saturday in the Lompoc Concert Association’s second show of the 2017-18 season.

The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Lompoc, 925 North F St. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students. Season tickets are also available for $60 for adults and $125 for families.

Petty will take a nostalgic look at the late singer-songwriter Hank Williams and his influence on country music. He will look to bring the legendary Williams' music back to life, as well as honor other country greats, such as Jimmie Rodgers, Roy Acuff and the Carter Family.

The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 125 is seeking vendors to participate in this year’s Holiday Bazaar on Nov. 18.
