Church to host 'Messy' event for families
The First United Church of Lompoc, 925 North F St., is inviting families to attend its final Surf Shack Summer Messy Church event for this summer, which is scheduled for 3:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The free event will include water Olympics, crafts, drama, games, the Science Guy, music and a simple supper. The event is especially for families with children, according to organizers.

City offering STEM with Lego classes
The Lompoc Recreation Division is accepting registration for its Engineering with Lego Summer Camp classes.
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with Lego classes are scheduled for Monday through Friday at the Anderson Recreation Center. Intro to STEM with Lego is for ages 5 to 7 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon, while STEM Challenge with Lego is for ages 7 to 12 and runs from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost for each course is $145.

Families invited to Movies in the Park
The Lompoc Recreation Division will host a screening of the 1994 film “Little Giants” beginning at dusk, around 8 p.m., Friday at Ryon Park.
The event is the second and final installment of this summer’s Movies in the Park series. Attendees are encouraged to bring low-back chairs, blankets, snacks, or even dinner to the free, family-friendly screening. Some snacks will be available for purchase. Smoking, alcohol and pets will not be permitted.

Bingo games to benefit anniversary mural
The Valley of Flowers Half Century Club, 341 North N St., will host an afternoon of Bingo games, beginning at 1 p.m. Aug. 13, to raise funds for a 50th anniversary mural for Lompoc's Filipino-American Club.
The cost to play is $10 for the first pack and $6 for additional packs. Specials will be offered at $1 per game. The proceeds from the event, according to organizers, will be used to help the Filipino-American Club put up a mural depicting the contributions the club has made to Lompoc and the Central Coast over the past 50 years.

Information booths sought for Mexican celebration
El Concilio de Lompoc, which will sponsor its 40th annual Mexican Independence Celebration on Sept. 10 at Ryon Park, is accepting applications from any club or group that would like to set up an information booth during the celebration.
Any club, organization or business that wishes to be involved is encouraged to call Joe Gonzales, the event organizer, at 735-7081.
The event is held annually to celebrate Mexico's independence from Spain.
