Information booths sought for Mexican celebration

El Concilio de Lompoc, which will sponsor its 40th annual Mexican Independence Celebration on Sept. 10 at Ryon Park, is accepting applications from any club or group that would like to set up an information booth during the celebration.

Any club, organization or business that wishes to be involved is encouraged to call event organizer Joe Gonzales at 735-7081.

The event is held annually to celebrate Mexico's independence from Spain.

Author to speak at NARFE meeting

Author Joe Valencia, who wrote a book about his experience as part of a firefighting team sent to Vandenberg Air Force Base to battle a large winter blaze 40 years ago, will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), scheduled for Sept. 14.

The meeting will be held at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave. The doors will open at 11:15 a.m., with the program slated to begin at 11:45 and lunch served at noon. The meeting is open to everyone. Meals will be $13.50 for a ham quiche and fruit cup, and $15 for barbecue chicken, beans, garlic bread and salad.

Tickets on sale for LHS Class of '72 reunion

The reunion committee for Lompoc High School's Class of 1972 is selling tickets for the class's 45-year reunion, which will be held Sept. 23 at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave.

The event will include a no-host bar at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. A ticket for dinner and dancing is $58.69 per person. A ticket for just dancing is $11.48 per person.

Civic Theatre to offer benefit show at library

The Lompoc Civic Theatre will offer a benefit performance of “Wally’s Café” at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Lompoc Public Library’s Grossman Gallery, 501 E. North Ave.

Tickets are $10 each and will go on sale Friday at the Lompoc and Village libraries and at The Bookstore, 1137 North H St. Written by Sam Bobrick and Ron Clark and directed by Anne Ramsey, “Wally’s Café” is a lighthearted, fast-paced comedy about 40 years in the lives of Wally, the owner of a roadside café near Las Vegas, his long-suffering wife Louise, and Janet, an aspiring starlet who shows up one day and never leaves.

Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so early purchase is advised. Tickets are nonrefundable and all proceeds go to the Friends of the Library for distribution to the Lompoc and Village libraries.

Elks Lodge to host Craft Bazaar on Oct. 7

The Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave., will host its annual Craft Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7.

Spaces are available for rent starting at $20. Attendees will be able to shop, as well as enjoy a picnic on the lodge’s back patio. There will be tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs, drinks and baked goods for sale.

Among the items expected to be on sale are creations of glass, wood art, jewelry, blankets, aprons, and other items that have been sewn, knitted and/or crocheted.
