Rescue to hold Valentine-themed bake sale

Shadow’s Fund Dog Rescue will hold a Valentine's Day-themed bake sale fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Grocery Outlet, 316 E. Ocean Ave.

The sale will include a variety of baked goods, including dog treats. All proceeds, according to organizers, will benefit Shadow's Fund, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping senior dogs, so-called bully breeds and dogs with treatable injury or illness that are often passed over for adoption.

Church to host 'Snow Day' celebration

For the second straight year, Lompoc Foursquare Church is set to host a free “Snow Day” celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11 in the church parking area at East Walnut Avenue and North C Street.

The event, which is open to the community, will include a sledding hill, snow play area, crafts and food. The church previously hosted a snow event on Jan. 29, 2017.

Families invited to 'Messy Church' event 

The First United Methodist Church of Lompoc, 925 North F St., is inviting local families to attend its "God is Love" Messy Church event from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 11.

Activities for the free Valentines Day-themed event will include “Heart Hunt,” “Yarn Hearts” and a candy heart stacking competition and craft. The celebration time will be “Jesus is God’s Best Valentine.” The event will also include a visit from the Science Guy and a simple supper for all attendees. The event is especially for families with children, according to organizers. A parent or other adult must accompany children.

Volunteers needed for community project

The Lompoc Beautification and Appearance Commission is seeking volunteers to assist with a work project planned for Feb. 17 at D Street and North Avenue.

The work, which will begin at 8 a.m. and run until it is complete, will involve spreading mulch, planting drought-tolerant plants and helping to enhance the community. Lunch will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring tools, such as wheelbarrows, shovels, pitchforks and rakes.

Barrett to discuss senior issues during program

Rona Barrett, who runs the Rona Barrett Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Santa Ynez that is dedicated to the aid and support of senior citizens in need, will be the featured speaker during a special program scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the sanctuary at the First United Methodist Church, 925 North F St.

Anyone who is a senior, a caregiver to a senior or hopes to be a senior citizen someday is invited to attend.

Prior to Barrett’s presentation, the church will host a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share. The event had initially been scheduled for January, but was postponed.
