Teams of airmen from Vandenberg Air Force Base got rid of some Halloween pumpkins Friday afternoon in a creative and competitive fashion.

The airmen participated in a Pumpkin Launch event that was put on through the Air Force’s “Catapult to Success” program.

During the event, groups of airmen worked with representatives of the Team Bonding company to construct catapults out of various materials. The groups then launched pumpkins from those catapults and also built contraptions to catch the pumpkins. The winning team received a trophy.

The event was primarily funded through the Air Force’s Recreation for Resilience initiative, which aims to provide outlets and opportunities for airmen to do fun team-bonding activities together, according to Josie Cordova, the deputy director of the 30th Force Support Squadron at VAFB.

The Pad, a rock-climbing gym in Santa Maria, was one of the event’s sponsors.
