The Children's Resource Network of the Central Coast hosted its annual pre-Christmas toy giveaway Saturday, held this year at Arroyo Grande High School's parking lot.
Volunteers passed out hundreds of free toys ranging from Barbie dolls to Matchbox cars to underprivileged kids from across San Luis Obispo County, organizers said.
In addition to the wealth of toys, children’s books, clothing, diapers, food and school supplies also were handed out during the two-hour event, and the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County gave out food at the giveaway. A second event will be held today in San Miguel.
Lisa Ray, president of the Children's Resource Network, said numerous organizations helped support this year's annual drive to allow families in need provide Christmas gifts to their children from birth to age 18. Gift-wrapping stations also were available at the event.
Toys for the two-day giveaway were donated to the network by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Advisory Council and other area organizations.
Advisory Council members joined Ray and, of course, Santa Claus to distribute the gifts to children who otherwise might not receive anything Christmas morning.
