The Lompoc Police Department announced its DUI checkpoint dates and times for the month of December this morning.

The DUI checkpoints are scheduled for 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 13, 20, 27 and 28 at certain locations within city limits. The checkpoints will help keep the roads safe for travelers, police said.

The DUI checkpoints will also double as drivers' license checkpoints. In addition to the checkpoints, police will be stopping more cars during that enforcement period, officials said.

About 500 drivers were killed in California during the last five years in the month of December alone, according to police data.

Police say they will show zero tolerance to drivers under the influence.
