A Santa Maria teen who was shot Saturday afternoon has died, the Santa Maria Police Department confirmed Monday.
Thirteen-year-old Leonardo Navarro has been identified as the victim of what investigators believe to be an accidental shooting.
His brother, Fernando Navarro, 19, was arrested on shooting a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and possession of firearm by person prohibited by court order.
He was booked into jail on those charges and was set to appear in a Santa Maria courtroom Tuesday.
Just after noon Saturday, deputies were dispatched to reports of a residential shooting in the 600 block of West Polk Street. Leonardo Navarro was treated for his injuries on scene and, subsequently, flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
The alleged weapon was recovered by police in the vicinity of the incident.
