Santa Maria teens showed off their resourcefulness and creativity along with their swimming skills during the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department’s annual Teen Cardboard Boat Regatta on Sunday.

During the event at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center and Paul Nelson Aquatics Center, teens were tasked with sailing cardboard boats they designed and built.

The only materials the participants could use were cardboard and duct tape.

Each boat had to race 50 meters across the aquatics center pool.
