Cabrillo alumni HOF inductions this Friday

Cabrillo High is hosting a dinner event on Friday, Aug. 5 to induct several former players in the school's hall of fame. The football and cheer teams also will be there for the community to meet and greet.

The barbecue dinner starts at 6 p.m. at Cabrillo's cafeteria. Tickets are $25 until Aug. 1 and then $30 at the door. All proceeds will benefit Cabrillo football program.

The inductees are the 1976 CIF Champion Softball Team, Hank Cook (Class of 1970), Dr. Benjamin Williams (Class of 1974), Mike Sullivan (Class of 1985), Bob Boyer (honored staff) and Richard Shiers (honored staff).

Joe White Dinner coming up

Tickets are now available for Hancock College's 15th annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction.

The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for a social hour and silent auction.

A New York strip dinner prepared by Cowboy Flavor will be served at 7:07 p.m., with the live auction to follow.

The price of admission to the fundraiser is $60 per person. Sponsorship opportunities range from $500 to $5,000.

The Hancock Boosters, Inc. has agreed to use the money raised at this year’s dinner and auction for a new video scoreboard for the college’s on-campus football stadium.

AHC basketball clinic

Hancock College is hosting boys basketball clinic in August.

The men’s basketball program will host a four-day youth camp from Monday, August 15, through Thursday, August 18. The camp, intended for boys ages eight to 17, will run from 9 a.m. to noon inside the gymnasium. Registration will cost $85 per child.

Zaca Creek Golf Course clinics

The Zaca Creek Golf Course will host complimentary golf clinics for blind and physically challenged persons.

Mike Brown, club operator and general manager, will host the two-hour sessions on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.

PGA teaching professional Bob Kotowski will conduct the clinics, which are free.

Zaca Creek will also offer golf clinics for women on Tuesdays at 11 a.m., free junior golf classes on Sundays at 1:30 p.m., and Master the Short Game clinics Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
