The CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) released the playoff pairings for the 2015 tennis team playoffs and several local teams will be in action right away.
The tournament begins with wild card matches this afternoon and first round matches on Wednesday.
In today's Division 4 wild card action, Lompoc, the No. 3 seed out of the Los Padres League, will host Alhambra, the No. 3 seed from the Almont League. The winner will travel on Wednesday to play a first round game at Maranatha (Pasadena), the No. 1 seed from the Olympic League and the overall No. 4 seed in the division.
Other LPL teams in the wild card will be Orcutt Academy (No. 4 LPL) will play at Cerritos Valley Christian (No. 2, Olympic) and Templeton (No. 2 LPL) hosts Laguna Blanca, a freelance team from the former Condor League.
Santa Ynez (No. 1 LPL) will host Milken Community (No. 2 Liberty League) on Wednesday in a first round match.
The four PAC 8 League teams are all competing Wednesday in the Division 2 playoffs.
League champion San Luis Obispo hosts Camarillo (No. 3 Coastal Canyon League), Arroyo Grande (No. 2 seed) is home against Simi Valley (No. 2 Coastal Canyon), the three seed Atascadero will play at Walnut (No. 1 Hacienda) and Righetti (No. 4 PAC 8) is at Arcadia, the No. 1 Pacific League and the No. 2 overall seed in the division.
Baseball and softball will complete their seasons Friday and the brackets for the baseball and softball playoffs will be released on Monday, May 18.
Members of teams from the Los Padres League and PAC 8 Leagues played in the CIF-SS Boys Golf Individual playoffs Monday afternoon. The Northern Division tournament was played at the Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo with the top 20 golfers advancing.
On the course, which is a par 71, two locals advanced to the next round.
Ray Navis Jr. from LPL champion Nipomo shot a 73 and will advance, while Andy Eppright from San Luis Obispo had to work overtime to earn a spot. The cut was 74 and eight players tied with that score with only six spots open. After three playoff holes, Eppright won the final open spot.
Navis and Eppright will move on the the CIF-SS Boys Golf Individual Championships which will be held at the Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs on Thursday, May 21 at 8 a.m.
Other local scores in the Northern Division were, Ethan Ashbrook (St. Joseph) 75, Jack Avrit (Arroyo Grande) 76, Bailey Flickinger (Paso Robles) 78, Adam Burrola (Nipomo) 80, Coleman Godfrey (SLO) 80, Austin Kranz (Cabrillo) 84, Brandon Pita (Righetti) 85, Markus Lund (Orcutt Academy) 86, Greg Potruch (Paso Robles) 86.
The winning score was a 2-under par 69 by Bryant Falconello from Loyola High. Finishing in second with one under 70s were Collin Morikawa from La Canada and Spencer Soosman from Westlake.
Valley Christian 26, North County Christian 1
In a Coast valley League game played monday afternoon at home, the Lions scored 11 runs in the first inning and rolled to a win Monday afternoon. The game was called after the fifth inning due to the run rule.
VCA had 25 hits in the game, with several players having two or more. Kyle Humann hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, Jack Barker had two hits with one a double, also plating a pair of runs. Other batters with two hits were Luke Nichols, Ezekiel Biggs, Josh Norholm, Matthew Bullock and Brandon Heller.
Ryan Moore had three hits and knocked in two runs. Biggs and Heller added two RBI each with Norholm, Bullock and Nichols driving in one each.
The Lions are now 6-2 in the CVL with two games to play this week, both at home. If Valley christian defeats Maricopa this afternoon, they will clinch second place in the league. The regular season will end Friday when the Lions welcome Shandon.
