Righetti High School will open the CIF Southern Section girls water polo playoffs on the road but the Warriors won’t have to go very far.
The PAC 8 League runner-up will head to Cabrillo, the Los Padres League champion, on Wednesday for a Division 3 first-round test.
The CIF-SS released the water polo brackets Saturday and, in all, six local teams made the playoffs.
In addition to Righetti (18-7) and Cabrillo (17-8), Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez and Nipomo will all get at least one more game in the pool.
Arroyo Grande, the PAC 8 League champion, opens its Division 2 playoffs at home against Temple City (23-5), the second seed from the Rio Hondo League.
PAC 8 No. 3 Paso Robles (14-9) is in Division 6 and opens at Orange League runner-up Savanna (15-10).
Santa Ynez (16-10), No. 2 out of the LPL, is the No. 1 seed in Division 7. The Pirates host La Puente (3-8), the Montview League’s No. 3 team.
Nipomo also earned a spot in the Division 7 playoffs.
The Titans (8-9), the LPL’s No. 3 team, will be at Garden Grove League No. 2 Los Amigos (11-14).
Santa Ynez and Nipomo are in action Tuesday evening. Everyone else is back in the water Wednesday. All games are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Hancock 96, Santa Barbara 85
The Bulldogs (3-5 Western State Conference North Division) evened their two-game season series with their county rival, winning a WSC North game at Santa Barbara City College.
Marcellus Garrick tied his career-high with 26 points, and Kevawn Lord set a new career-best with 24 points to lead an all-around team effort for Hancock.
The Bulldogs, who beat the Vaqueros for the first time in three tries this season, improved to 3-5 in Western State Conference play and 13-15 overall. The Vaqueros fell to 3-5 in league and 5-19 on the season.
Garrick scored 14 points, Whiteside poured in seven and Lord scored six to give Hancock a 40-34 lead at halftime. Hancock went 12-for-14 from the free-throw line in the first 20 minutes. Eight different Bulldogs scored in the first half.
The Bulldogs erupted for 56 points in the second half behind 18 from Lord, 12 more from Garrick, and nine from freshman point guard Nolan Willett. Garrick hit three 3-pointers in the second half and four in the game. The Bulldogs went 15-for-19 from the line in the second half and 27-for-33 (82 percent) on the night.
The Bulldogs will return to action at home Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Cuesta in their final home game of the season.
Hancock 4, Grossmont 1
SAN JACINTO — Maggie Dasis hit an inside-the-park home run, Myranda Morales went 3-for-3 and Bailey Killough pitched a complete game as the Bulldogs finished their appearance at the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament with a win.
The Bulldogs (6-1) spotted the Griffins (2-2) a first-inning run. Isabella Partida drew Hancock even when she tripled home Dasis in the fourth. Killough drove in Partida with a sacrifice fly for the winning run.
In the sixth, Dasis circled the bases for Hancock's first home run of the season. Myranda Morales doubled home Killough with the last run.
