OXNARD — Hancock College's baseball squad lost 6-2 at Oxnard College Thursday, missing a chance to move into sole possession of first place.

However, the Bulldogs are still in the thick of the Western State Conference North Division race.

That's because the six WSC North teams' conference records range from 7-6 to 5-8. The Bulldogs dropped to 18-16, 7-7 with the loss. The Condors improved to 11-21, 5-8.

At press time, Moorpark, Santa Barbara City College and Ventura were all 7-6 in the WSC North, and Hancock and Cuesta were both 7-7, with six conference games left.

Hancock's hitters were quiet against Oxnard starter Anthony Magadaleno and reliever Jason Gomez. The Bulldogs had just seven hits. Magadaleno pitched the first six innings and Gomez pitched the last three.

The Bulldogs had just one earned run.

Oxnard rang up five runs in the sixth as the Condors snapped a 1-1 tie. Noah Goss singled in two runs and Colin Freeman singled home another. One run scored on a wild pitch and another scored on a balk.

Jake Shusterich had the lone RBI hit for Hancock, a single in the fifth that tied the game briefly for the Bulldogs.

Goss, Freeman and Antonio Gonzalez all had two hits for Oxnard. Josh Harmonay and Brendan Gomez had two hits each for Hancock. The Bulldogs will play a 1 p.m. WSC North game at Moorpark Saturday.
