How long have you had the job? I started with the Auto Club back in 2004 as a travel agent in our Escondido branch in San Diego County. As travel agent I escalated to a supervisor. I’ve worked in Orange County at our headquarters. I’ve worked in the state of Hawaii and Woodland Hills. I’ve been in Lompoc since Jan. 1.

How did you get into this business? I always had an affinity for travel. It was one of my greatest interests. Even when I was a young child, I traveled with my mom to a variety of different locations all over the U.S. My mother was a travel agent and then my parents bought out the business she worked for. So I grew up around it. There was always some kind of travel association going on in my family.

When I was in sports entertainment for the San Diego Padres, I was an outside salesperson for my parents’ mom- and-pop travel agency in Antioch. When my career ended in baseball, I transitioned to Triple A. It was a natural fit for me to work for a company that is the largest retail travel agency in the nation. It was quite an opportunity.

What do you like most about your job? I like the people, the member interaction and the people that I work with. It’s great to work for a company that is over a hundred years old with the type of family values that Triple A does have.

What do you find most challenging about managing this business? You never know what’s going to happen on a daily basis. It’s the daily challenges that come up.

What do you do in your spare time? I travel in my spare time. I travel twice a year to a variety of destinations. I love it. It’s in my blood. Last year I visited Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. I loved Hong Kong. It’s such a diverse place. It’s a great place to visit, the culture, the people. You get food from all over the world. It’s a great place to shop, In a few weeks I’m going to Vietnam to learn about the culture, the history. Other than travel, I really enjoy golfing.
