How many people do you employ? I employ one person, Mr. Quikton Sloan who is a stylist/ barber.

How long have you been in business? I opened this business in August 2012. I have been doing hair for 12 years and Quikton has been doing hair for 20 years. I have been self-employed in Lompoc for 12 years.

How did you get into this business? I was a single mom and needed to be part of my kids’ life and needed the flexibility this career offered.

What do you like most about owning your own business? It gives me the ability to be a parent to my children, to be able to be involved in their lives. It gives me the flexibility, even though we have set business hours. It gives me the ability to not have to answer to someone. If I need to take a day off in order to be there for my children, I can change my schedule to suit their needs.

What do you find most challenging about owning this business? I’m having a good time.

What do you do in your spare time? I’m a Cabrillo High School band mom. And I sit on the board of the Santa Barbara Symphony for the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony.

Is there anything you would like to add? I am an Army disabled veteran and an active member of the American Legion. The Legion owns the building where my shop is and they have been instrumental in successfully starting me as a business owner.
