Do you know that the City of Lompoc has its own public access television show? Are you aware that this channel airs a wide variety of shows that include educational skits, news and updates?

Most recently, the Economic and Community Development Department launched "Tune In, Lompoc," a segment that keeps residents and tourists informed about community events and information all about what’s happening in Lompoc. In an effort to increase awareness of general “happenings” in town, city staff wanted to make available a short public access television show where members of the community can “tune in” and hear about some great things going on.

The first segment was launched late November 2016 with a “Holiday Preview!” This segment highlighted community events put on by the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Bureau, the City of Lompoc Recreation Division, and the Lompoc Library.

Representatives from each entity described some of the ongoing annual events that are put on for residents of Lompoc to come out and join in some holiday festivities. Some recurring events that were mentioned were the Recreation Division’s Annual Children’s Christmas Parade, the tree decorating at the Library, and the Chamber events such as the successful Holly Jolly Jubilee and Cookies and Cocoa after the Christmas Parade.

The second episode launched in early February and featured the diverse dining and restaurant industry in Lompoc, highlighting a variety of locally owned restaurants whose owners shared their stories of coming to success as well as how their business contributes to Lompoc as a dining destination.

So how does this relate to economic development you ask? Well, one of the goals in contributing to this television show is to assist in showcasing what Lompoc has to offer and the quality of life, and presence of a community in this town. In turn, the hope is to use this is as a business attraction and retention tool to both bring in new businesses to this great city and keep the existing ones here.

By highlighting different positive events, programs, and news that is happening around town, we aim to improve the outlook on the City of Lompoc and shed light upon the quality of life in town that is crucial for the people that are living, working, and playing in town.

One way where "Tune In Lompoc" can act as a business attraction tool is potentially showing the video YouTube link, to prospective businesses that inquire about quality of life here in town.

If a large business is looking to relocate here, they often look at data on schools, programs, and demographics in the city. Many times they want to see the quality of life in the town since they may be bringing a multitude of employees with their families to a new area. With that, "Tune In Lompoc" can offer a quick snapshot of some of the things our community hosts to get people involved, and increase the quality of life.

Future segments will not only give an overview onto news and events, but will also aim to delve into programs offered by the City of Lompoc, and give deeper insight to efforts of differing city departments.

The show is spearheaded by Samantha Scroggin, Community Relations Manager and Public Information Officer, and Jasmine McGinty, Development Programs Specialist, both of the Community and Economic Development Department. The show will feature a citywide approach but also will have an emphasis on involving the business community and promotion of economic development efforts.

Stay Tuned in 2017 for future episodes of "Tune In Lompoc," which can be accessed at the city website,, TAPTV,, and the EDC Facebook Page
