...ELEVATED SURF AND DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS THROUGH MONDAY... ALONG WITH LARGE ASTRONOMICAL TIDES EACH MORNING...

.A MODERATE WESTERLY SWELL IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGH TODAY. ANOTHER LARGER WEST TO NORTHWEST SWELL IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO THE COASTAL WATERS TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING. THESE SWELLS WILL PRODUCE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS IN THE SURF ZONE AND DANGEROUS WAVES ON ROCK JETTIES THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. THE HIGH TIDES WILL ALSO BE LARGE EACH MORNING, PEAKING MONDAY. DUE TO THE HIGH TIDES AND ELEVATED SURF, THERE COULD BE MINOR COASTAL FLOODING NEAR THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE EACH DAY.

* HAZARDS...ELEVATED SURF OF 6 TO 9 FEET AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS ARE EXPECTED THROUGH MONDAY EVENING ON WEST TO NORTHWEST FACING BEACHES. LOCAL MAX SETS TO 10 FEET WILL BE POSSIBLE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY EVENING. THE COMBINATION OF ELEVATED SURF AND HIGH ASTRONOMICAL TIDES AROUND MID-MORNING TODAY AND MONDAY MAY RESULT IN MINOR TIDAL OVERFLOW IN LOW LYING AREAS.

* IMPACTS...THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK FOR OCEAN DROWNING. RIP CURRENTS CAN PULL SWIMMERS AND SURFERS OUT TO SEA. LARGE BREAKING WAVES CAN CAUSE INJURY...WASH PEOPLE OFF BEACHES AND ROCKS...AND CAPSIZE SMALL BOATS NEAR SHORE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IS ISSUED WHEN THREATS SUCH AS RIP CURRENTS...LONGSHORE CURRENTS...SNEAKER WAVES AND OTHER HAZARDS CREATE LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS IN THE SURF ZONE. SWIM NEAR A LIFEGUARD. IF CAUGHT IN A RIP CURRENT, RELAX AND FLOAT. DON'T SWIM AGAINST THE CURRENT. IF ABLE, SWIM IN A DIRECTION FOLLOWING THE SHORELINE. IF UNABLE TO ESCAPE, FACE THE SHORE AND CALL OR WAVE FOR HELP.
