The Elverhøj and Wildling museums are teaming up for a series of fun and informative 1-day excursions, co-hosted by the Buellton and Solvang Rec Departments for transportation and reservations. Participants can choose from two specially curated days of art, culture and beauty -- without the hassle and stress of driving -- over the next six months as well as one in both summer and fall. A knowledgeable museum representative will accompany each group to enrich the experience.
Kicking off the series is Elverhøj Museum of History & Art and Buellton Rec Center with a trip to The Broad in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., $49/person. The Broad is home to one of the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art in the world and offers innovative rotating contemporary exhibitions. The visit starts with a one-hour guided tour highlighting key pieces from the collection. After the tour, enthusiasts will enjoy lunch at one of the many surrounding eateries and several hours to explore the museum independently.
Elverhøj’s second excursion with Solvang Rec Department is Wednesday, April 10, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., $40/person, to the Getty Center. The Center's convergence of art, architecture and gardens make for an enriching day of beauty and history. The visit will include a 45-minute guided Architectural Tour and plenty of time to enjoy lunch and explore independently.
On both trips guests will enjoy insightful background information and insider tips provided by an Elverhøj Museum docent.
Wildling Museum of Art & Nature has two nature focused trips:
The first excursion with Buellton Rec Center is Thursday, March 14 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., $68/person, to the beautiful Carrizo Plain, touring Soda Lake and learning about plants, animals, and geology of the San Joaquin Valley. This trip is currently sold out, but a waiting list is available in case of cancellations.
The second excursion, hosted by the Wilding Museum and Solvang Rec Department on Friday, May 10 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., $68/person, is a 3-3.5-hour Island Wildlife cruise through the waters of the Santa Barbara Channel, the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and the Channel Islands National Park. These areas are known to have more marine mammals than any other area on the planet. After the cruise, attendees can enjoy shopping and a late lunch in the Ventura Harbor Village. The trip is hosted and escorted by artist Cheryl Medow and Wilding Museum staff.
