Melodrama 2017 "A Christmas Carol" cast

The cast of "A Christmas Carol," part of "The Holiday Extravaganza," onstage through Dec. 31 at the Great American Melodrama in Oceano.

No holiday season on the Central Coast is complete without a visit to "The Holiday Extravaganza," playing through Dec. 31 at the Great American Melodrama in Oceano.

The annual production features the timeless classic "A Christmas Carol," a fractured fairy tale and a vaudeville revue, featuring song, dance and comedy of the season. See Ebenezer Scrooge, Cinderella and Rappin’ Reindeer all in one evening.

The show opens with a one-act version of Charles Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol," directed by Melodrama Artistic Director Dan Schultz.

Miserly Scrooge, played by Billy Breed, who thinks Christmas is a “humbug,” is visited by spirits who teach him the true meaning of the holiday season. 

Local young actors portraying the Cratchit children at alternate performances include Doris Green, Meah Herrick, Aubrie Knollenberg, Nolan Lemay, Lander Martin, Logan and London Raftery and Frida Vega.

Following the main production will be "Cinderella or The Shoe Must Go On" by Brad Carroll. This musical lark follows Cinderella (Katie Worley Beck) as she meets her Fairy Godmother (Jackie Hildebrand) and falls in love with the Prince (Mike Fiore). But, can she find happiness and escape her wicked stepmother (Tim Stewart)? 

The revue, written and directed by Eric Hoit, focuses on the foods and drinks of the holiday season. Musical numbers include the popular “Reindeer Rap” and the Melodrama’s Water Glass Orchestra.

Musical direction and accompaniment for is provided by Ilana Atkins with choreography by Sydni Abenido and Eric Hoit.
