Burton B. Wilder

Burton B (Burt) Wilder, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away on August 28 under the watchful care of his family. Burt, a 46 year resident of Lompoc, moved here from Kern County in August of 1973. He was born in 1928 in Tupman, CA, just outside Taft. Burt enlisted in the Merchant Marines at 16, then served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked in the oilfields around Taft, where he met Mary, his loving wife of 69 years. After working on the Belridge Oil Lease as both a plumber and carpenter, Burt moved his family to Lompoc to become a certified building inspector for the County of Santa Barbara until his retirement in 1985. He and his wife Mary also owned the local “Hi! Let's Eat” restaurant. Burt was a skilled woodworker, motorcyclist, avid RV'er, fisherman, handyman, and cabin builder. He was involved with the Lompoc Kiwanis and Elks Lodge. Burt was much loved and will be remembered by many friends and family. His absence will always be with us. Burt is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Cherry Wilder, his son Sam Wilder and wife Sandi, daughter Marlene Porter and husband Neal. He also had five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and nine great-children. A Celebration of Life will be held for Burt on Friday, September 6 at 1:00pm at the Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean, Lompoc, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Lompoc Library.
