Erik died peacefully on June 12, 2019 in Morgan Hill, California, following a brief illness. He was 79 years old.
Erik lived a full life devoted to his family. He was born on July 29, 1939, in Santa Barbara, California, the first child and only son to Danish immigrants Alma and Knud Andersen. Growing up on a farm instilled Erik with a strong work ethic and sense of community. He graduated from Santa Ynez Valley High School in 1957, and attended San Jose State University, where he met the love of his life, Angela Terry Abel. The couple settled in San Jose and raised four children over their 58 years of marriage.
Erik had a long and successful career in software engineering for the disk drive industry in Silicon Valley, initially at IBM and later at firms such as Maxtor, Quantum and Seagate. He loved spending time woodworking and fixing things with his hands. His sage advice, steadfast presence, and hearty laugh will be missed.
Erik is survived by his wife, Terry, three of their children, Robert (Betsy) Andersen of Piedmont, Kirsten (Patrick) Guise of San Jose, Niel Andersen and his partner Lisa Eichler of San Jose, and five grandchildren. The family is grateful for the devoted care and friendship of Dr. Lewis Haut. Erik was predeceased by his parents, his sister Litti, and son Michael. The family gathering will be private. Gifts of remembrance can be made to Santa Ynez Valley High School or to a charity of one's choice.
