Los Alamos Mushroom Festival

Joining Los Alamos' 13th annual weekend-long Mushroom Festival beginning Friday, Jan. 25, will be The California Folk School of Los Alamos' "Mushroom Hunters Field Trip," held on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. 

Meeting at Los Alamos Drum Canyon Park (not to be confused with Ferrini Park in downtown Los Alamos), the 1 to 1-1/2 hour fungi excursion will teach eager learners how to become a mushroom hunter by locating them in their rich habitat.

Guides Helen Daniels, an experienced mushroom forager, and Michelle C. Torres-Grant, who has worked with the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens, will offer their knowledge on mushroom ecology and the ABCs of mushroom hunting. The walk includes a reception of mushroom coffee and candy cap mushroom scones. Wearing comfortable walking shoes and warm clothing is advisable. Dogs allowed on leash only.

Tickets are $15 and available at www.cal-Folk.com. Reservations required. The book "Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast" will be for sale.
