Blood drive to be held at Elks Lodge

The United Blood Services of the Central Coast will hold a blood drive from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave.

Donors must feel well, have eaten prior to donation, weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old and have photo identification.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, call 965-7037.

Families invited to Movies in the Park

The Lompoc Recreation Division will host a screening of the 1994 film “Little Giants” beginning at dusk, around 8 p.m., Friday at Ryon Park.

The event is the second and final installment of this summer’s Movies in the Park series. Attendees are encouraged to bring low-back chairs, blankets, snacks, or even dinner to the free, family-friendly screening. Some snacks will be available for purchase. Smoking, alcohol and pets will not be permitted.

Bingo games to benefit anniversary mural

The Valley of Flowers Half Century Club, 341 North N St., will host an afternoon of bingo games, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, to raise funds for a 50th anniversary mural for Lompoc's Filipino-American Club.

The cost to play is $10 for the first pack and $6 for additional packs. Specials will be offered at $1 per game. The proceeds from the event, according to organizers, will be used to help the Filipino-American Club put up a mural depicting the contributions the club has made to Lompoc and the Central Coast over the past 50 years.

Applicants sought for Leadership Lompoc Valley

The Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce is soliciting interested candidates to participate in its annual Leadership Lompoc Valley program.

The purpose of Leadership Lompoc Valley is to identify and develop a diverse group of leaders with a special understanding of the Lompoc Valley and a solid foundation of leadership skills. Program participants become acquainted with various aspects of the Lompoc Valley through monthly Topic Days held during normal business hours on Fridays from September through May. Topic Days include speakers, expert panels, and tours of businesses and public agencies.

Skateboard Competition slated for Aug. 19

The community is invited to gear up for the Lompoc Recreation Division’s annual Skateboard Competition on Aug. 19 at the Lompoc Skate Park, 305 W. College Ave.

The event is open to all skaters ages 7 and older, and is co-sponsored by Surf Connection and Lompoc Foursquare Church. Check-in starts at 10 a.m. and the contest begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $5 per event. Prizes will be awarded in each category and age group. Participants must comply with the rules and regulations of the Skate Park and wear appropriate safety equipment.
