American Legion group hosting dinner fundraiser

The ladies of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 211 will host a dinner fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at 636 North H St.

The dinner, which is open to everyone, will include a baked potato bar. Meals will be $8.

Rescue to hold Valentine-themed bake sale

Shadow’s Fund Dog Rescue will hold a Valentine's Day-themed bake sale fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Grocery Outlet, 316 E. Ocean Ave.

The sale will include a variety of baked goods, including dog treats. All proceeds, according to organizers, will benefit Shadow's Fund, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping senior dogs, so-called bully breeds and dogs with treatable injury or illness that are often passed over for adoption.

Museum program to focus on realities of WWI

For the fourth installment of its 13-part series commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the end of the World War I, the Lompoc Museum will host a program titled "The Realities of War" from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Stone Pine Hall, 210 South H St.

Historian Philip Gallanders will give a short presentation focusing on the impact that battles such as Ypres, the Somme, and Verdun had on the soldiers fighting. That will be followed by a screening of the 1930 film “All Quiet on the Western Front.”

Admission is free and light refreshments will be provided.

The Lompoc Museum is offering programs related to World War I on the 11th day of each month through Nov. 11, which will be the 100-year anniversary of the end of the war. For more information, contact the museum at 736-3888 or or visit the facility at 200 South H St.

Church to host 'Snow Day' celebration

For the second straight year, Lompoc Foursquare Church is set to host a free “Snow Day” celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the church parking area at East Walnut Avenue and North C Street.

The event, which is open to the community, will include a sledding hill, snow play area, crafts and food. The church previously hosted a snow event on Jan. 29, 2017.

Families invited to 'Messy Church' event 

The First United Methodist Church of Lompoc, 925 North F St., is inviting local families to attend its "God is Love" Messy Church event from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Activities for the free Valentines Day-themed event will include “Heart Hunt,” “Yarn Hearts,” and a candy heart stacking competition and craft. The celebration time will be “Jesus is God’s Best Valentine.” The event will also include a visit from the Science Guy and a simple supper for all attendees. The event is especially for families with children, according to organizers. A parent or other adult must accompany children.

Registration open for teen leadership conference

The city of Lompoc is accepting registrations for the fifth annual TOTAL (Teaching Our Teens As Leaders) Conference, which is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center, 1120 W. Ocean Ave.

The conference is put on by the Lompoc Youth Commission. The theme for this year’s event is “Hollywood: Shoot for the Stars.” The conference is open to all middle and high school students. The keynote speakers and breakout sessions are designed to teach, motivate, empower and energize teens. Registrations will be accepted at the door between 8 and 8:45 a.m. Monday. The cost to register is $10 per person.
