Fashion show to benefit American Cancer Society

The Lompoc Relay for Life's "Love Will Find a Cure" team will hold a fashion show and luncheon fundraiser on Saturday, April 6, at the Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Avenue. Registrations for the event are requested by Sunday, March 31.

A social hour will begin at 11 a.m., with the luncheon set to start at noon. A variety of raffle items and door prizes will also be available. As always, local cancer survivors will be the models and will share their stories of their fight against cancer. This year, the models will be wearing fashions from Deasee’s Boutique in Lompoc.

Tickets are $40, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Lompoc Valley Medical Center to offer diabetes series

Lompoc Valley Medical Center is offering a new education series titled “Living Well with Diabetes.”

The three-week program will aim to educate attendees about achieving a target blood sugar level, eating healthy foods and being active. The first program will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each day on April 1, April 8 and April 15. After a break, the program will repeat on May 6, May 13 and May 20, and then again on June 3, June 10 and June 17. All sessions will take place in the Ocean’s Seven Café at LVMC, 1515 E. Ocean Ave.

Physician referrals are not necessary to enroll in the series. There is a $15 fee per class. To sign up, call LVMC Registered Dietitian Mariafelix Gonzalez at 805-737-5788. Gonzalez, who earned a master’s degree in human nutrition, will lead the program.

Families invited to Easter-themed 'Messy Church' event 

The First United Church of Lompoc, 925 North F St., is inviting local families to attend its "More than the Bunny — Easter Messy Church" event, which is scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 7.

Activities for the free event will include crafts, games, music and other exercises for children. It will also include a visit from the Science Guy and a simple supper for all attendees. The event is especially for families with children, according to organizers. A parent or other adult must accompany children.

American Legion group to hold enchilada fundraiser

The Sons of the American Legion Vandenberg Squadron is selling green enchilada dinners to raise funds, with the meals set to be available for pickup between noon and 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the westside entrance of the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building, 100 E. Locust Ave.

The meals are $10 apiece. They will include beans and rice along with the enchilada.

GI Forum to hold Fish Fry fundraiser

The Lompoc Valley American GI Forum will hold a Fish Fry fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the Veteran's Memorial Building, 100 E. Locust Ave.

Meals will be $10 and will include fish, fries, coleslaw, roll, and a drink.

LHS alumni group accepting scholarship applications

The Lompoc High School Alumni Association is currently accepting applications for three $1,000 scholarships that the organization will award this year to graduating seniors or graduates of Lompoc High School who are attending college or vocational school.

To be eligible, graduating seniors must have attended LHS for four years and must be the son/daughter of a member of the LHS Alumni Association. Applications will also be accepted for LHS graduates attending a university, community college or vocational school who are enrolled in at least 12 units.

Applications can be picked up at the LHS counseling office, 515 W. College Ave., or can be downloaded from www.lompocalumniassn.org. The deadline to submit an application is May 17.

Any Lompoc High School graduate interested in becoming a member of the Lompoc High School Alumni Association can visit www.lompochighalumni.com for more information. Lifetime membership is $30.
