Civic Theatre to present 'A Dog's Life'
The Lompoc Civic Theatre will present its production of the musical “A Dog’s Life” with a series of performances set to run on weekends beginning Friday, May 24, through Sunday, June 9, at Stone Pine Hall, 210 South H St.
The Friday and Saturday performances are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday shows are set to start at 2 p.m. Doors will open a half-hour before each performance.
For the Friday and Saturday shows, general admission tickets at the door will be $18, while seniors, students and military members will be admitted for $15. Each of the Sunday matinees will be $15 for general admission, as will all presale tickets, which are available at Alfie’s Fish & Chips at 1036 North H St. and the Lompoc Chamber of Commerce at 111 South I St.

Barbecue fundraiser to benefit queen candidate
The Lompoc Elks Lodge, 905 E. Ocean Ave., will host a fundraiser barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, to benefit Lompoc Flower Festival queen candidate Naomi Ledesma's campaign.
Barbecue chicken dinners will be offered for a donation of $10. They can be picked up at the lodge's back door during the fundraiser hours. Presale tickets are available at the lodge or by contacting the lodge's Queen Candidate Committee at 805-865-6223.
Community invited to Veterans United meeting
American Veterans United, a nonprofit that advocates for active-duty service members, veterans and their families, is inviting the community to attend its monthly general meeting, scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the American Legion Post 211, 636 North H St.
Veterans seeking help with benefits and claims are encouraged to attend. There will also be merchandise for sale and a 50/50 raffle afterward. The American Veterans United meetings are held on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Artesia School open house slated for Saturday
There will be an open house at the old Artesia Schoolhouse, 115 W. Chestnut Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

Built in 1876, Artesia was the Lompoc Valley’s first county school and was the oldest used continuously before closing in 1961. On display will be old school desks, ink wells, books, and even a dollhouse made to look like Artesia with students at their desks. There is no charge, but a $1 donation is appreciated.

Buddhist Center to host workshop
Mahakankala Buddhist Center North will sponsor a mala making workshop from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Plaza de Oro, 701 E. North Ave., Suite F (upstairs).
There will be a brief talk about the way Buddhists use malas (prayer beads) to count prayers and mantras, followed by instruction and hands-on mala making.

Church group to hold spaghetti fundraiser dinner
The United Methodist Men of the First United Methodist Church will hold a spaghetti fundraiser dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in the Fellowship Hall at the church, which is located at 925 North F St.
The event is open to everyone. The cost for a meal will be $12 per person, while children ages 12 and younger will be able to eat for free with a paid adult. The proceeds, according to organizers, will go to support community charitable organizations. There will also be a "Cake Walk."

Legion seeking vendors for summer bazaar
The Sons of the American Legion Vandenberg Squadron 125 is seeking vendors and craft-makers who would like to operate a display at the squadron's Christmas in July Bazaar, which is scheduled for July 20 at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building, 100 E. Locust Ave.
The cost is $25 per space.
