Families invited to 'Messy Church' event 

The First United Church of Lompoc, 925 North F St., is inviting local families to attend its "Messy Church" event, titled "God Talk," which is scheduled to take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10.

Activities for the free event will include crafts, games and other exercises for children, like learning how to pray in color. It will also include a visit from the Science Guy and a simple supper for all attendees. The event is especially for families with children, according to organizers. A parent or other adult must accompany children.

Adam to hold office hours at Vets Building

Santa Barbara County 4th District Supervisor Peter Adam will be available to meet with constituents from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building, 100 E. Locust Ave., Suite 101.

Members of the community are invited to drop by to discuss any concerns or questions they may have about local county government.

Half-Century Club to host potluck bingo

The Valley of Flowers Half-Century Club will hold a potluck bingo event Sunday, Feb. 17, at the club’s headquarters at 341 North N St.

Doors will open at noon, with games slated to begin an hour later. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share during a break scheduled for 3 p.m. The cost for the first pack of cards is $10, with each additional pack costing $6. All other games will be $1 each.

YMCA to raise funds at South Side Coffee

The Lompoc Family YMCA will hold a "Dine and Donate" fundraising event from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at South Side Coffee Co., 105 South H St.

A portion of proceeds during that time period will be donated to the YMCA’s annual campaign, which funds scholarships and other programs to ensure that no one is denied membership because of an inability to pay.

LHS alumni group accepting scholarship applications

The Lompoc High School Alumni Association is currently accepting applications for three $1,000 scholarships that the organization will award this year to graduating seniors or graduates of Lompoc High School who are attending college or vocational school.

To be eligible, graduating seniors must have attended LHS for four years and must be the son/daughter of a member of the LHS Alumni Association. Applications will also be accepted for LHS graduates attending a university, community college or vocational school who are enrolled in at least 12 units.

Applications can be picked up at the LHS counseling office, 515 W. College Ave., or can be downloaded from The deadline to submit an application is May 17.

Any Lompoc High School graduate interested in becoming a member of the Lompoc High School Alumni Association can visit for more information. Lifetime membership is $30.
