Landmark Church to host Vacation Bible School

The Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 708 North Third St., will host a Vacation Bible School from July 15 through July 19.

The school is open to children in preschool through eighth grade. The classes will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day. The theme is "Farm Fresh Faith," and the classes will explore the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors.

Free lecture to focus on long-term senior care

Dallas Leigh Atkins, a Santa Barbara-based elder care attorney, will lead a free lecture on long-term senior care from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the Ocean’s Seven Café inside Lompoc Valley Medical Center, 1515 E. Ocean Ave.

Atkins, a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, is slated to speak about the differences in coverage between Medicare (for short-term rehab care) and Medi-Cal (long-term care). Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn strategies for legal options and how to stay away from financial pitfalls, get educated about maintaining autonomy and dignity, and plan for all stages of life. Atkins has practiced law since 1977 and is also a marriage and family therapist.

The lecture is presented by the Community Education Committee of the Lompoc Hospital District Foundation.

Friends of Library to hold summer book sale

The Friends of the Lompoc Library System will hold its annual summer book sale on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20, with a special members-only "preview sale" from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at the Lompoc Public Library’s Grossman Gallery, 501 E. North Ave.

The sale will be open to everyone from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 19 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20. The sale will include hardback and paperback books, CDs, videos, DVDs, audiobooks, and the Friends' "Treasure Table." Attendees will also be able to join the Friends of the Library during the sale and/or pay their 2019 dues.

Baptist church offering Vacation Bible School

North Avenue Baptist Church, 1523 W. North Ave., is inviting children who are 3 years old through those who just completed sixth grade to attend its Vacation Bible School, which will take place July 22 to July 24.

The program will explore the life of Joseph and his relationship with God. The classes will be held from 6 to 8:05 p.m. each day.

Registration open for Calvary Bible School

Calvary Baptist Church, 3355 Constellation Road, is accepting registration for its Vacation Bible School, which will be held July 22 through July 26.

The weeklong program, themed "POWER UP Raise Your Game," is open to children in first through sixth grades. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The program aims to connect kids through a culturally relevant video game theme so they learn that God loves them, and they will be challenged to "raise their game."

Registration open for annual Hudson triathlon

The Lompoc Recreation Division is accepting registrations for its 13th annual Hank Hudson Memorial Lompoc Sprint Triathlon and Junior Triathlon, both of which are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Sprint Triathlon will consist of a 500-yard swim, an 11-mile bike race and a 3.1-mile run. The first heat will begin at 8 a.m. The cost to register is $50 for individuals 14 and older, and $90 for relay teams.

The Junior Triathlon, for participants 14 and younger, will consist of a 50-yard swim, 1-mile bike ride and quarter-mile run for those 10 and younger, and a 100-yard swim, 2-mile bike race and half-mile run for those 11 to 14 years old. The first heat will begin at 11 a.m., and the cost to register is $20 for individuals and $40 for relay teams.

Preregistration is required and all participants will receive a T-shirt.
