8/14/05 Santa Barbara County Sheriff/s Department officials arrested Joseph Hetzel, 40, of Buellton Thursday night on suspicion of possession of items used to make explosive devices, using explosive devices with the intent to terrorize and felony vandalism.
According to the sheriff/s department, Hetzel is suspected of committing acts of vandalism against his ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth Plews, 37, of Buellton.
The vandalism included poisoning Plews/ dogs; throwing balloons filled with paint, transmission fluid or other liquids against her residence or her attorney/s office; spraying noxious substances on her lawn; and throwing rocks and breaking windows at the home and work place of her current boyfriend/s family, sheriff/s officials stated in a press release.
Plews has reported more than 12 incidents of vandalism since the end of 2004, and she has had a dispute with Hetzel over custody of their child, the release stated.
Hetzel was arrested after detectives and county bomb squad technicians served a search warrant at his residence on the 400 block of Calor Drive in Buellton Wednesday, the release stated. He was spotted by an off duty deputy in the Buellton area and was arrested without incident.
