Lompoc Unified School District appointed former Orcutt Union Superintendent Deborah Blow as interim superintendent during its board meeting Aug. 9.
Blow's temporary appointment will remain in place until a permanent superintendent is named by the board, district officials said.
The move comes after former Deputy Superintendent Bree Valla left the district on July 28, three days after former Superintendent Trevor McDonald submitted his resignation, citing family matters.
Blow brings to Lompoc 40 years of experience in education — 11 years as superintendent, four years as assistant superintendent, 15 years as a site administrator and 10 years as a teacher, according to district officials.
She served seven years as the superintendent of Orcutt Union High School District, retiring in 2020.
Blow has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including Administrator of the Year and Principal of the Year. Officials noted that her strengths reside in communication, building relationships and strategic leadership.
“We are so excited to have Dr. Blow come to our district with a new perspective to help LUSD thrive,” said school board President Nancy Schuler-Jones.
