Nearly 100 new bikes were distributed to local children Dec. 20 during the eighth annual Brice Fabing Memorial Bikes 4 Kids event.

“We were happy to say that it was a huge success this year and we were able to collect 95 bikes,” said Dorine Fabing, the event's coordinator. “We were extremely proud that we were able to give back to our community in a small way, but a rewarding way.”

The annual bike drive is held in memory of Brice Fabing, who was a 17-year-old student at Lompoc High School when he was killed in a car crash in 2005. Brice’s parents, Dorine and Mark, coordinate and run the bike drive.

Dorine Fabing extended thanks to several community partners who assisted with the bike drive. Among them were Ashley Costa of the Healthy Lompoc Coalition and Monika Bennett with the Kiwanis Club.

She also thanked Deacon Lujan for blessing the bikes and sponsors Coast Hills Federal Credit Union, City of Lompoc Employees, IBEW Union, LPOA Union, EDA, Tom’s Burgers, Bikers Spice, El Concilio of Lompoc, AYSO, and everyone who supported the family's fundraisers and/or donated to the effort.

“Together we brought a little Christmas cheer to our Lompoc families, which is what Christmas is all about,” Fabing said.
