Activity and excitement returned to classrooms throughout Lompoc Unified School District on Tuesday, which marked the first day of the 2017-18 school year.

Students, teachers, other staff members and even some parents converged on the district's 16 school sites — not including adult education — as summer break officially came to a close.

Along with Tuesday's start of the school year, other key dates on the LUSD calendar include:

  • Nov. 20 through Nov. 24 — Thanksgiving break;
  • Dec. 18 through Jan. 5 — Winter break;
  • April 2 through April 6 — Spring break; and
  • June 7 — Final day of classes.

The school year will include a total of 180 instructional days.
