Vandenberg Village Lions Club members will be collecting used eyeglasses throughout the Lompoc Valley and beyond Saturday as part of a statewide “Lions Eyes Across California” event.

Mary Ann Weyandt and Dana Norris, Village Lions members and chairs for the local campaign, have set up drop boxes in various locations for community members to recycle old eyeglasses. The Lompoc-area boxes are located at Acceptance Financial & Insurance Services, Clear Vision Optometry, at both Coast Hills Credit Union branches, Heritage Villas, Kendall-Shepard Eye Center, the Lompoc and Village library branches, the Mission Club office, Rabobank, Sansum Clinic, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, VAFB Pacific Coast Club, VAFB Optometry Clinic, Village Coffee Stop Cafe, Vons grocery and Lompoc Family YMCA. There is also a box at the Solvang office of optometrist Dr. Dennis Bales.

According to the Lions Club, there is a great need for children’s glasses. The club is also requesting prescription sunglasses and readers, but cannot use broken glasses.
