How wrong can one person be?

Per the FBI's own statement, on Jan. 5 a person close to Nikolas Cruz contacted the FBI's Public Access Line tip line to report concerns about him. The caller provided information about Cruz's gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential for him to conduct a school shooting.

Under established protocols, the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information should have been forwarded to the FBI's Miami Field Office for appropriate investigative steps.

These protocols were not followed; the information was not provided to the Miami Field Office, and no further investigation was conducted at that time. Other suspects known to the FBI prior to their assaults:

Dylann Roof, who in 2015 shot nine people at a church in Charleston; Pulse shooter Omar Mateen, who pledged allegiance to ISIS before killing 49 people at an Orlando nightclub; Fort Hood shooter Army Maj. Nidal Hasan; Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the brothers behind the 2013 Boston bombing.

One must therefore conclude that Hava Holzhauer's emotion-laden commentary should have been offered with more thought and logic. Complex problems don't render us helpless; that is the work of failure to accept reality. When law enforcement fails, additional laws will provide exactly zero additional benefit.

Taking a stand on school shootings

The fact that there is a school shooting almost every other day since the beginning of the year is just appalling.

The fact that the Republicans are taking millions of dollars from the NRA to do nothing to stop the crazy things that are going with guns in schools is appalling.

I heard a commentator on the radio that said until June, when the school year is over, that some National Guardsmen should be posted at every public school throughout the nation to protect the children.

Maybe the politicians would do something and listen if the students throughout the nation said they were not going to school until something is done to make them safe.
