We're using people here illegally, not helping

Regardless of his guilt or innocence, how does an illegal alien get a job driving for UBER?

Why don't the City Manager, the Mayor, City Council members, tell us again how we can't possibly live without people here illegally, how vital they are (to the amount of money the city regulators make from businesses that employ people here illegally, since an employee with no workers comp, no health insurance, no retirement, no vacation, no protections, is really the perfect employee).

Tell us again about the car theft rate in Santa Maria — eight to 10 times higher that San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara — or the rate of hit and run accidents, teen pregnancies, tell us about the high school graduation rate, or the exit exam numbers.

Yeah, we couldn't possibly do without them. Some people couldn't fill their wallets without them, while the rest of us pay for it.

It isn't about helping them, it's about using them for profit.

Spreading confusion is working

Today's "Thought For the Day" from Salvador Dali — "What is important is to spread confusion, not eliminate it" — must have been taken to heart by the Trump administration. I remember presidents all the way back to Harry S. Truman. Today I am contemporaneously confused. Must be working.

Shutting government for the few is wrong

The new trick for Democrats is that if you cannot use the 300-plus years of law and rules to introduce a bill on something just shut down the government instead of using the system as it was designed.

Whether you want or do not like DACA is not the point. If you want new laws and regulations you go through the process and both the Congress and Senate come to an agreement. But the Democrats would rather close parks and facilities to millions; allow working Americans to not draw a paycheck and shutdown the country for a very small minority of people who are in this country illegally.

Again, it does not matter which side you are on, but to end run, circumvent and force a law without the process is selfish. The top Democrats say this is what Americans want. Who are they talking to other than themselves?

I am sure that the workers who will not get a paycheck think otherwise. We all know that the government is not going to go door-to-door looking for people of all ages here illegally. It is just a scare tactic that seems all too common for the Democrats these days, and it seems a whole lot of people are blindly listening to these people.

Any rational person would table a desire or want in the best interest of the general good. Bring your bill to the house for a vote, us voters will note who voted and their reasons and if you do not like that vote next election, change the slate. It is too bad that we see so few commentaries in our paper sighting rational thought and intelligence. What do you think?
