Santa Maria ended a 29-year league championship drought Friday night with its win over Nipomo.

The Saints were rewarded with a home playoff game Sunday.

Santa Maria will host Carpinteria in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 12 playoffs.

There will be another playoff game in the Santa Maria Valley then. And another in Lompoc.

The Los Padres League champion Braves (10-0, 4-0 LPL) are the third seed in Division 3 and will take on Camarillo (5-5, 1-2 Marmonte League) in a first-round game Friday night.

St. Joseph finished second in the LPL and will host Havard-Westlake (8-2, 2-3 Angelus League) Friday.

Righetti is also in the playoffs, but will likely start on the road in Division 8.

Nipomo, the second team in the Northern League is also hosting a playoff game, as is PAC 5 League champion Paso Robles.

Santa Ynez is out in Division 10 despite its 8-2 record. The Pirates went 2-2 in the Los Padres League, losing to Division 3 Lompoc and Division 5 St. Joseph.

It's nothing new for Santa Ynez as this season followed last year's script page-for-page.

Santa Ynez has gone 23-7 the last three years and has not made the postseason. Meanwhile, teams like 1-9 Encino Crespi in Division 3 are in.

There were no at-large teams in Division 10, as all the playoff spots were automatic qualifiers, for teams finishing first, second or even third in their respective leagues.

This year, though, is especially brutal for the Pirates after giving both Lompoc and St. Joseph all they could handle. Santa Ynez gave Lompoc its toughest game, falling 17-7 at Huyck Stadium on Oct. 20. Lompoc went on to beat St. Joseph 50-6 on Oct. 27 before time ran out on Santa Ynez's last-second comeback attempt in Friday's 20-14 loss at St. Joseph.

League champions are guaranteed home playoff games.

St. Joseph, the No. 2 team out of the Los Padres League, landed a home game in Division 5. The Knights will host Harvard-Westlake Friday night in a first-round game.

Righetti will surely hit the road in Division 8, likely playing a top seed.
