Lompoc Babe Ruth

There is one more day to register for the upcoming Lompoc Babe Ruth season. Sign-ups will be Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at George Meyer Field on the corner of Airport and 4th Streets.

Fees are $125 per player with a $25 rebate for concession duty volunteers. All new players must bring a copy of a birth certificate.

Tryout dates will be Saturday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 7 with fielding at 9 a.m. and hitting at 11 a.m.

Late sign-ups can be made on the tryout dates and there are some scholarships available.

Village Country Club clinics

The Village Country Club in Vandenberg Village will be holding a series of golf clinics focusing on all aspects of game.

This five-session program began Friday and continues for five straight weeks.

The comprehensive instructional program will be provided by PGA golf professionals Bob Kotowski, Ken Doran and Dan Unrue.

The cost for the series is $90 per person or $20 per individual session and includes clubs, range balls and refreshments.

The series is designed to work on all areas of the game, and prepare participants for two on-the-course playing lessons at the Club, included within the series.

There will also be a special package that includes a new complete set of Adams golf clubs and the golf lesson series for $549.

Cabrillo soccer to honor Tasch

As part of the team's 25th anniversary celebration, the Cabrillo High girls soccer team is honoring some of its former coaches.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3 at halftime of the Cabrillo vs. Lompoc game,, the team will honor Mark Tasch. The first head coach in the girls soccer program, Tasch coached from the 1990-91 season and in the 1991-92 season.

The Conqs will continue with the celebrations on Tuesday, Feb. 10, when Cabrillo will honor Sandra Martinez Hildago at halftime of the Orcutt Academy game. She was the head coach four seasons beginning in 1997-98 through the 2000-01 season.

Hancock to host track & field clinic

The Hancock College track and field team will host a clinic on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The clinic will be held on the new track located next to the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium in Santa Maria.

Coaches and athletes from the Hancock team will help athletes prepare for the spring track season, covering using starting blocks, the hurdles, pole vault, sprints, jumps, relays and the shot put and discus.

The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at the track. The cost is $10 per person.
