Wrestling coach needed

Cabrillo High School has an opening for a varsity wrestling coach. 

Candidates interested in applying for the position should contact the Cabrillo Athletics office to pick up an application.

Previous high school coaching experience is required.

Ninja Games prelims

Due to popular demand, Lompoc's Gymnastics North will offer one more set of Ninja Games prelims before the summer begins. The next set of Ninja Games will resume in the Fall.

On Saturday, May 9 and Saturday, May 23, girls and boys ages five to 12 can attempt to conquer the new, challenging obstacle course using ropes, poles, trampolines, a zip line, climbing mountain and more. If they successfully complete the course in either prelim they qualify for championships on Saturday, June 6.

The entry fee is $25. The deadline for all meets is the prior Tuesday.

Wine Country Half Marathon

The Santa Barbara County Wine Country Half Marathon will be raced on Saturday, May 9 beginning at 7 a.m.

The entry fees are $118 for an individual, $108 for a team and $198 for a two-person relay.

PGA Junior League

The PGA of America is kicking off the PGA Junior League Golf.

Designed to follow in the footsteps of Little League baseball, youth football and basketball, the Junior League is a team format where everybody plays in a fun environment with their friends, whether they are accomplished golfers, intermediate players or beginners.

The cost is $150 and includes uniforms, practice, clinics and games against other teams from around the Central Coast.

It is designed for kids ages nine to 13 and will be held throughout the summer.  

The Central Coast team will be based out of Rancho Maria Golf Club.

Indoor Soccer

The Lompoc Recreation Division has announced a new youth soccer league. An arena indoor youth soccer league will begin on June 10 and registration is now underway.

Games will be held at the Anderson Recreation Center Gym on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights through Aug. 21.

The league is open to boys and girls ages nine through 12 in boys U10 and U12 and girls U10 and U12 divisions. Registration will run through May 22 at $40 per athlete.

Mission Run on Sunday

The Mission Memorial 5K Run/Walk and 10K run will be held on Sunday, May 3 at the La Purisima Mission Historical State Park. The event is hosted by the Lompoc Valley Distance Club

The courses consist of blacktop, dirt and "some hills.” The starting time is 10 a.m. with registration beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Proceeds will be shared with the La Purisima Mission State Historic Park docent nonprofit group.

The entry fee is $10, $8 for members of the LVDC and $5 for ages 19 and under.

Babe Ruth fundraiser

The annual reverse drawing fundraiser for the Lompoc Babe Ruth will be held on Saturday, June 6 at the La Purisima Parish Hall, located on South I Street, just north of West Olive Ave.

Tickets are $50 and include two Tri-Tip dinners and an entry into the drawing. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and the drawing will begin at 6 p.m.
